David Gordon Green Does TV
September 30, 2008
Awesome. David Gordon Green is creating an (animated) pilot for Fox that centers on two Californian surfers. For those of you who aren’t famil with his name, Green directed George Washington, All the Real Girls, and Pineapple Express (pictured below). I expect this show will receive critical acclaim, generate a cult following, and then get canceled after one season. Whatever, I’m still excited.

Franco Forever.
Newt Gingrich
September 30, 2008
What’s this asshole doing on TV? Who is he anymore? He’s acting not only as if he was an elected representative, he’s going around like he’s highest ranking Republican in office. Good grief.. who’d wanna be that anyway?
His presence can’t serve any other purpose except to be angling for a run in 2012 by sabotaging this election, and it’s more evidence that the Republican party has completely collapsed to the point that ANYONE can jump in and take the helm. Clearly a huge chunk of the Republican party has given up on McCain, but it seems they’ve decided that they’re not crazy enough! Got to be more crazy! People want us to be insane just like we’ve always been! let’s make people hate Gingrich today for fucking up the economy, let’s remind people what an asshole he used to be back when he was in office, let’s highlight the irrational, illogical and dangerous nature of House Republicans. No Democrat could do this so efficiently.
Keep on talking about the economy and pretty much anything guys, it’s working out great - for Democrats.

Stocks Lose A Skillion Dollars
September 30, 2008
Well, we did it. We lost over a trillion dollars in one day. A trillion dollars doesn’t even sound real. It sounds fake. Like a bajillion. We might as well say we lost a bajillion dollars yesterday, because once you pass the trillion mark, names are no longer significant. I guess that’s not entirely true, but for the average person I think it is.
I’m not sure how this affects my Roth IRA account, but I’m assuming it’s not helping it grow. Just a hunch.
God help us.
If i’m broke…
September 30, 2008
How does this crisis affect me? The few bucks I put into my 403(b) are buying a lot of shares these days… how about we extend this stock market crisis for a little bit more (how about six months from now when my student loans kick in) so I can then see my few shares of Thornburg International Value Fund A skyrocket?
I am young, so I have very little worries. Bank of America seems to be doing fine, and that’s where I keep my money and they also pay my paycheck (thru a non-profit organization).
So as long as Bank of America is doing ok, I’ll still be kinda broke but getting by (for at least six months).
Sarah Palin Is Upsetting People
September 26, 2008
NY Mag believes Sarah Palin’s Latest Interview Is Making People Sad and I totally agree. They’ve compiled a list of quotes from others who feel the same way:
• Alessandra Stanley writes that “in some ways it was the worst” interview Palin has done. The exchange on Russia was “startling,” her answer “surprisingly wobbly.” While it’s “perhaps understandable” that Palin “felt nervous,” it still “wasn’t a reassuring performance.” [NYT]
• Earnest Republican observer Ross Douthat can’t link to video of the interview because it’s “too painful,” but seems to admit he was wrong in his earlier advocacy for Palin. Of course, it’s always possible that it’s all “just effing brilliant rope-a-dope for the Biden debate.” [Atlantic]
• Chuck Todd and friends concur that without “McCain’s debate gambit, Palin’s near-disastrous two-part interview with Katie Couric would be dominating the political discussion right now.” The only upside is that Palin “has moved her debate expectations to an all-time low.” [First Read/MSNBC]
The list of quotes continues on from there, but perhaps more interesting are the comments left by a couple readers. We at supercereal think that readers’ comments usually deserve posts of their own. They are often more entertaining and insightful than the stories they’re commenting on. To prove my point I’m going to include two comments from this piece:
- Right from the beginning it seemed to me that McCain had picked Palin the same way Anne Hathaway picked her future husband in Princess Diaries 2 or perhaps more appropriately the way Prince Farquad(?) picked Fiona in Shrek (slideshow of attractive candidates) By tjr276 on 09/26/2008 at 12:20pm
- who watches/relates anything to PRINCESS DIARIES 2 and SHREK?!!??!!!?
who ARE you, TJR276 By NOTRENATAM on 09/26/2008 at 12:39 pm
Seriously, TJR276. Who are you indeed? Because I cannot think of a better comparison myself. You are amazing.
Sarah Palin = SNL Character
September 26, 2008
NY Mag posted this story which discusses Sarah Palin’s awkward interview with Katie Couric. In it they compare Sarah Palin to SNL character “Nicholas Fehn.” The similarities between the two are uncanny. Watch below…it is hilair:
I know SNL has gone downhill since Tina Fey left, but I do like Fred Armisen. He pins down his characters really well. Like his spot-on Tony Danza impersonation.
Also, I like how someone clearly video taped this off their television with a video camera and then uploaded it onto youtube. I used to do that too, tape things off tv with a camera. But I don’t think I’ve used that method since 1993. But hey, obviously taping shows using a video camera still gets the job done.
McCain’s leadership
September 26, 2008
I guess the economy’s bad and the government thinks it can help it, but guess who doesn’t like the plan
Mr. Boehner pressed an alternative that involved a smaller role for the government, and Mr. McCain, whose support of the deal is critical if fellow Republicans are to sign on, declined to take a stand.
[...]
But a top aide to Mr. Boehner said it was Democrats who had done the political posturing. The aide, Kevin Smith, said Republicans revolted, in part, because they were chafing at what they saw as an attempt by Democrats to jam through an agreement on the bailout early Thursday and deny Mr. McCain an opportunity to participate in the agreement.
Country first!

Debates
September 24, 2008
First debate is this Friday. Why Friday? So no one is home to watch Obama tear apart McCain’s foreign policy ideas and twisted logic? I smell a conspiracy. Here’s something to make you look forward to it:
His advisers said they saw no reason to clear his calendar to prepare, give the Arizona Republican’s decades-long experience on foreign affairs issues and his years of debating colleagues in the Senate.
Yes! This is gonna be great! Down with Spain!
