Attention to detail has never been the Bush’s administration strong point, but this is pretty bad. This is just another argument for Mississippi and South Carolina to abandon the Confederate symbol in their state flags. Until then (which is probably never), the government should just hide those flags when the cameras are around – at least, whenever white-robed, creepy-looking Germans with pointy hats come around for a prayer.

Of course, this was not in any way a racist event and the picture is presented out of context. The sad thing is no one would be surprised otherwise, seeing as Bush is Bush and the Catholic Church certainly appears menacing. But Bush, the Church, and the “Confederate” states are declining influence and power every day, so much so that the only way they can get my attention these days is through an accidentally amusing picture that references their past reputation. Let’s just sit back and enjoy the final moments of the Bush presidency, laugh as it deseprately seeks redemption for its sins, and look forward to the future.

Unless McCain wins it all, in which case all of the above is wrong and we should all be extremely terrified.
